As college students we are constantly on the look out for anyway to bulk up our resumes by joining an intermural soccer team here and writing for the school newspaper there. Why do we put ourselves through all of this extra hassle, you ask? Well, internships are your answer. Any college student knows that the quickest way to climb the ladder of success is through networking and internships. Making a good first impression is definitely a step in the right direction.
So here you are on the morning of your internship. You find yourself staring at a closet full of sweatpants and going out clothes. What is a Fashionista to do? Chances are, your first internship does not pay well, if at all, so a savvy new wardrobe is out of the question. The next best option is to shop in your own closet. Look for pieces that are appropriate for the workplace, but do not compromise your personal style. Instead of a stuffy button-up on loan from your mom, layer a patterned sweater under a structured jacket. Or gravitate towards a midi skirt and blazer combination if you are looking to be dressier.
This Fashionista definitely shows us how it is done. What drew me to her outfit initially was her mustard yellow sweater. The sweater popped out underneath her menswear-inspired jacket and added a nice contrast to her otherwise monochromatic outfit. Adding a pop of color to a business like outfit helps you stand out amongst other blazer clad interns. Instead of opting for the same boring pair of black work pants, she went for a pair of gray ankle pants with zipper details, which added some edge to her look. To top off her outfit, she wore a chic pair of pointed toe loafers, keeping the look professional.
One Simple Change: It is finally time to clock out for the day and grab some dinner with friends. Switch out the sweater for a flouncy top to make the look more appropriate for a girl’s night out.
