Alexander Wang’s pre-fall 2015 collection was, for the most part, typical, incorporating a lot of black. But this time, unlike his utilitarian Resort collection, he kept a more wearable silhouette in mind. His colors, like always, are dark and draw extreme attention to the fabric. The leather wrap coat was my favorite piece from the collection because it looked easy to wear despite that distinct experimental-Wang feel about it.
I channeled my inner Wang in a subtle way. I based my look around my favorite half-leather leggings. Then, I paired them with a coat with detailing similar to one from the pre-fall lookbook. Mine tapers in at the waist just like his does, which makes it elegant but understated. I’d love to pull of a leather wrap, but his classic black overcoat is so much more feasible to mimic. It’s easy to look to the runway for inspiration, but it’s important to tailor the trends to what works for you. I did this by throwing on white sneakers for a nice contrast of style and color and a headband for warmth. I stuck to the monochromatic tone by accessorizing with black-and-silver jewelry and a big, leather tote.
His pre-fall collection is all about taking street style into consideration and forming a new take on the contemporary. The collection looks familiar because a lot of it plays on the tailoring of menswear, but it’s also revolutionary in that way. The best thing about Alexander Wang is that you can always rely on him for a good leather fix. I was inspired by the details of the pre-fall collection. I worked with a fun leather for a sleek, street style look.
