STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Great Lengths

Long-over-long has been a consistent winner this season, particularly with the off-runway crowd. For proof and further inspiration, take a look at Tommy Ton’s style snaps at the couture shows. With the availability of fast fashion, you can own an ankle-grazing coat yourself.

On the pre-fall 2015 runways, this silhouette can be spotted from Dior to rag & bone. Even J.W. Anderson hopped onto the bandwagon with knee-grazing dresses that can be worn over trousers, further emphasising the long-over-long silhouette. For those who are only willing to dip their toes into the pond, Proenza Schouler contributed to this trend with long cable-knit sweater dresses that are buttoned up in the back over pleated knit skirts, a look that is easy to replicate. This collection is Hernandez and McCollough’s nod to the “long and liquid” silhouette. This trend may seem a tad bit conservative, but a snug fit will be able to counterbalance the look from venturing into frumpiness.

Unconvinced? Take a note out of this Fashionista’s book. Her oversized knee-grazing coat was a statement piece by itself. This entire outfit is simplistic yet so well planned out due to the varying lengths of her long blouse layered over a textured short skirt. The main attraction towards such experimentation with lengths is definitely the comfort level. Due to the oversized nature, one can only imagine how comfortable this outfit is. Paired with sensible yet ultra cute flats, this look is perfect for a day full of classes in the city.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Long coats are definitely on trend right now, which makes it really easy to throw onto any outfit. Just experiment and have fun with it!”
