Valentino’s spring ready-to-wear show featured some amazing pastel pieces in the midst of deep blues, greens and reds. The pastels, directly followed by intricate white laser-cut pieces, really broke up the severity of the darker colors and stiffer textiles. These light colors looked so good on the runway that I wanted to try out the pastel trend for myself.
From reading too many magazines that feature a “Worst Dressed” section, I know that these colors can read a little Easter-y or old fashioned. I also had to keep in mind that the weather in DC is nowhere near warm, so I had to find a way to incorporate the necessity to bundle up with colors that are rarely seen in the winter.
This pink coat I’m wearing was one of my best online shopping finds this year. A late summer buy, I couldn’t wait for the temperature to drop enough so I could wear this coat. Since I tend to wear of monochromatic outfits in the fall and winter, I’ve gotten the chance to throw this coat on as a fun pop of color with lots of different outfits. I especially love pairing this color with leopard print! That’s the true Jersey Girl side of me coming out.
I paired my pastel pink coat with a pretty simple outfit featuring a flowy black top and my all-time favorite black Pixie Pants. I wanted the attention to be on my coat and I didn’t want to add too many other colors into the mix. I added a pink Burberry scarf whose color is very similar to the color of my coat but also has some darker taupe and gray stripes. My gray Tory Burch flats pull color from the stripes my scarf, tying the whole look together. When wearing a statement piece like my pink coat, it’s important to keep the rest of your pieces relatively toned down so your outfit doesn’t look too overworked.
