Mother nature loves to play games with us students and locals here in Richmond. Although we are amongst the months of the winter season, she loves to hit us with a tease of 60 degree spring days here and there. Despite the confusion, it does not stop us students from looking fly and weather appropriate for our travels through campus. It’s our chance of retaliation against the chill and winter season.
The must-have in everyone’s closet and the go-to not only this season but all year round is the old school denim jacket. Denim jackets have been recycled each decade, starting back to the ‘80s and most popular in the ‘90s on shows like Saved By the Bell and Full House. The denim movement continues to progress onwards throughout each generation.
On my travels through campus scouting out potential Fashionista/os amongst the crowded pathways, I came across the back of this Fashionisto’s denim jacket. What caught my eye the most was the patched, printed picture of a rabbit’s skeleton imprinted in the middle of the back. This particular element was what made the entire garment unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. Denim jackets with patches or denim and cotton jackets are just a part of the denim jacket family. Underneath he had on a comic superhero T-shirt with bright-colored headphones to complete his old school look.
Decades that seem to never die are the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. I, too, wish I could have been in high school during those eras. Denim oversized jackets can be rocked by gals or guys. Denim jackets are a blast from the past but are always going to be a huge complement to any look.
How To: The best part about denim jackets is that since they’re classics, they all have a unique, vintage touch. Whether they are bought online or at a nearby Goodwill, they are super authentic and can be paired up with any season. Try denim on denim or, once it starts to warm up, throw your jacket over a printed dress to give your look a vintage edge.
