STYLE GURU STYLE: Monochromatic Is The New Black

I have been seeing it everywhere, and you probably have, too. The monochromatic trend has been dominating the runway for some time now, and it seems like it is not going anywhere any time soon. And who would object?! It is classy, simplistic and timeless. The Jean Paul Gaultier spring 2015 couture collection showcases perfect examples of the monochromatic looks.

The collection focuses on clean silhouettes that elongate the figure. Many looks embrace the monochromatic color scheme with no overly flamboyant patterns or designs. The streamlined vibe screams chic. The only twist to the looks was that the traditional white was substituted with a softer, more feminine cream color.

The Jean Paul Gaultier collection inspired me to create my own monochromatic look. I incorporated the creamy alternate into my outfit. The replacement of white with cream is especially great for an average day on campus because a completely black and white outfit always runs the risk of coming off as too formal or businessy (unless you are into that look for cramming at the library). I kept the focus on my cream colored faux fur coat, toning down the fanciness with a black sweater underneath and some black pleather leggings. To achieve that modelesque figure, I threw on some chunky booties. The flat heels added some height without being inconvenient to walk in—the slight platform actually ended up perfect for treading in the snow. To stand out from the Jean Paul Gaultier collection and make the outfit my own, I wore a black bag with gold ornaments, adding a pop of color.

Get My Look: 1. Faux fur coat. 2. Chunky booties. 3. Bag with a touch of gold.
