STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: What's Black, Blue, and Brown All Over?

When you’re little, it seems like some of the only style advice your mom or grandma has to offer is to avoid those old, cliché fashion faux pas. You know what I’m talking about—the “don’t wear white after labor day,” or “socks with sandals are always an awful idea!”. I’m a strong advocate for the second one, but some of the biggest trends in fashion have been from supposed faux pas. When correctly executed, white can be worn all year round, or black and navy can be extremely crisp and chic. This fashion bravery is what makes a Fashionista stand out; she’s fearless with creating an outfit. After the leggings craze began a few years ago, people began to accept the idea of experimenting with color combinations. What initially caught my eye about this Fashionista is her polished outfit. It’s a comfortable take on a traditionally preppy outfit, which is perfect for class.

I love when people are fearless with trying new fashion trends or are even putting a modern touch on old classics. People have always either tried to avoid wearing dark blue with black or completely embraced it. I love how easy it is to recreate this outfit; it’s made completely out of basic wardrobe staples. I love the modern keyhole cut to her shirt. It’s fun, funky, and a little unexpected. A cut out plays up the neckline, without becoming too overbearing. Pair it with a relaxed sweater blazer, perfect for almost any situation, and you have the perfect balance of chic and comfy.

To add an even more unexpected spin on a contrasting outfit, wear your favorite pair of color-blocked brown and black riding boots. Wearing brown boots alone would be too light for the outfit. Adding a visual element to your shoes will guarantee that you stand out against the crowd and ensure a bunch of compliments. Wearing black and blue alone is risky, but throw in some touches of brown, and you’ll realize how much fun it can be to work with different color palettes.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Wear whatever you feel is right that day. Experimenting with different color schemes and trying new, unexpected outfit combinations is essential to discovering your personal style.”
