STYLE GURU STYLE: Flowy And Floral

Viktor & Rolf’s spring 2015 couture show was not just a collection, but a garden. Each dress featured a unique floral pattern that glided across the runway in a flowy motion. While some might regard the floral trend to be a spring cliché, Viktor & Rolf’s collection was anything but that. The patterns were funky and the tailoring of the dresses was unlike the typical sundress.

The collection sparked an interest in me to wear a floral ensemble that defied the norms of a spring sundress, but could still be wearable. In fact, I ditched the idea of a dress altogether and wore a black and magenta floral romper. The romper featured a keyhole neckline that ended in a simple bow for subtle detailing. The bottom part of the piece flares out to give the illusion of a dress, plus it aligns with the flowy theme of Viktor & Rolf’s collection.

To make the romper more casual, I paired it with a fitted denim jacket, a perfect transition piece from winter to spring. I love how the jacket is such a rich shade of blue and complements the gorgeous shade of the flowers on the romper. I decided to keep it simple for the shoes and wear some plain black flats. Why wear distracting shoes when it is the floral piece that should be doing all the talking?

Viktor & Rolf’s collection has inspired me to take a trend that is well known to the public and shake it up a little. In order to stand out in a garden full of flowers, you have to plant your own seeds.

Get My Look: 1. The fitted denim jacket. 2. A funky floral romper. 3. A versatile and classic pair of back flats.
