STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Mad For Marsala

Every year, fashion fans and artists look forward to Pantone announcing the color of the year. This year, marsala, an earthy reddish wine color similar to burgundy, was picked as the must-have hue of 2015. Sophisticated and classy, marsala is bold yet subdued and adds a hint of elegance to any piece of clothing.

Since its reveal at the beginning of the year, marsala has been greatly integrated into fashion. Whether it’s seen on the spring 2015 runways of Christopher Kane and Christian Dior or used as a color base for dresses, boots and even accessories, marsala has colored the world by storm. Its almost neutral-like hue also makes it an easy choice to add a hint of color to any plain outfit.

When I spotted this Fashionista, her marsala turtleneck from Zara was what stood out the most to me. Adding an element of color to her otherwise, dark neutral look, the marsala tone also greatly complimented her fair complexion. Despite the -30 degree temperature this Fashionista braved the cold in a trendy BCBGMAXAZRIA leather mini but added on black tights to stay warm. I loved her play of different textures in one outfit by matching a chunky knit with sleek leather. Going with the rich marsala color, she channeled some spring spirit by accessorizing with a gunmetal floral necklace. Knowing that Syracuse weather requires a good winter jacket, she didn’t skim on style with her gray faux fur-lined parka and black booties. Finally, all great outfits need one key stand out piece and for this stylish student, it was her black Mulberry Alexa satchel.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Versatile and trendy, a thick knit sweater and sleek leather skirt create an edgy contrast and keep you (relatively) warm in this weather.”
