If there is anyone who can seamlessly blend tailored shapes and bohemian florals, it’s Vera Wang. Her spring 2015 collection is simply to die for. Structured jackets and vests are paired with flowing, floral patterned dresses in a way that looks effortlessly chic. Her use of black as a base to the pale florals brings a whole new spin on typical spring looks; gone are the days of whites and bright pastels! Leave it to Vera Wang to make us rethink our spring basics. Especially here in Wisconsin, where the spring season is basically non-existent, these looks are very appropriate. Light colors seem very impractical when snow continues to adorn the sidewalks through March. Nothing says “happy spring” like slush stains on white pants!
To create my own Vera Wang inspired look, I opted for a more structured feel on the bottom, with more flowing pieces on top. I wear black, high-waisted shorts over sheer black tights and black loafers on my feet. On top, I layered two different sweaters; the bottom layer is a more fitted, grey and navy floral patterned sweater, and the top layer is a long, white sweater, left open in the front. With this outfit, I was able to capture Vera Wang’s style of various contradictions (monochromatic black vs. patterned florals and structured vs. flowing).
Thank you, Vera Wang, for being ever-innovative and showing us that spring style can have a dark side.
