STYLE GURU STYLE: Olive You

After some amazing red carpet fashion at the 2015 Oscars, the fall 2015 collections at the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week could have slipped from our minds for a few moments. However, how could we forget the amazing shows such as Oscar de la Renta, Diane von Furstenburg or Tommy Hilfiger (to name a few) as they continued to make everlasting impressions for yet another year? Aside from the more classic fashion week names, one of my favorite shows was that of a young designer: Jason Wu. Known for his dresses designed for Michelle Obama, Jason Wu’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection was by far one of my favorites. Throughout many of his designs, I couldn’t help but to love the simplistic styles and many different shapes. Overviewing the whole collection, Jason Wu definitely did not fail to put a twist on the minimal styles; whether it was with added fur, a belt or even the variety of neckline cuts, the bodies were each given an additional flare.

Luckily for me, the looks presented in Jason Wu’s fall collection aligned with my everyday style quite nicely, consisting of minimal, high-waisted and matte looks. Therefore, translating his runway productions into a street style outfit was quite simple as all of his pieces were elegant yet wearable for the everyday woman. Today, my look is inspired by the collection’s olive green garments and its belts, which appeared in a majority of the outfits. Specifically, my skirt today is comparable to the shades of green during the first quarter of his show. Also inspired by the collection, my black leather belt was the perfect accessory to add an additional piece to the look.

Like Wu, I decided to add my own twist to a simple outfit by incorporating pattern and texture. In addition to my skirt and my all-black attire, I added a black and white striped top to add more variety to my look. As far as accessories, I decided to keep things simple and understated with nothing too predominant, just like Wu’s accessory decision.

Get My Look: 1. An  olive-toned skirt. 2. A medium-sized leather belt. 3. A horizontally striped top.
