ALL IN THE DETAILS: Mixed Patterns

Hello there, readers! I hope you all have been staying warm this week. This season has been quite a ride so far. One day it’s snowing, the next day the temperature is below 10 degrees. Let’s just say, New Yorkers cannot wait for spring to approach.

Winter fashion is all about dark colors and long coats. I currently have about four different black peacoats in my closet. Just as I was beginning to grow a little tired of wearing them, I ran into this Fashionista and immediately had to take a photo of her outfit. The first thing I noticed, of course, was her camel-colored coat, mostly because I am in desperate need of one. Did I mention I own a lot of black peacoats? This coat is classic and gives a lighter tone to her look. As soon as I asked her for a picture, I spotted her subtle use of mixed patterns, which I thought was pretty rad!

Whenever I blend patterns I feel as though my outfit is having a party. This Fashionista was going to class looking chic wearing a plaid scarf and leopard-printed gloves with comfortable ankle booties. Many people fear mixing different types of patterns like floral and stripes, but I say go for it! Fashion is about taking risks and having fun. There are safety rules, of course. Ensuring a good balance of vivid shades and patterns is like coloring outside the lines with the right vision and intention. That’s what I love most about this Fashionista. It’s the fact that she safely pulled off plaid and leopard print together to her hearts content.

P.S. As much as we want to indulge in our spring attire, we should at least try to enjoy the rest of winter. We’ll miss it eventually.

How To: Are you growing a little tired of wearing the same colors? Don’t worry! Start mixing your wardrobe with different prints and colors. It will, for sure, brighten your day.
