Of the recent fashion shows for fall 2015, one that stuck with me was the Hermès fall 2015 menswear show. Amidst the show, they unveiled a number of pieces from their beautiful suiting collection for the fall. Because of my major and activities outside of classes, I find myself in some form of a suit around three times a week. Because of that, a good collection of suits tends to be my weakness.
One element that I noticed about the collection however is that the designer moved away from the very classic dark navy, dark gray and black colors for their suiting. The designer chose a few lighter grays and some alternative fits in their suiting, something I thought worked really well for the collection. Depending on the situation you are in a suit for, don’t be afraid to find something that strays from always classic, always professional navy blue, gray or black.
Look for a lighter gray, a lighter blue or look for an alternative material than the cotton or Italian wool often used to construct suiting. Two of my favorite places go-to places for suiting have been J.Crew and Suit Supply. Both offer beautifully crafted suits for a price that wont completely break the bank. The suit shown above is from the Ludlow collection a few seasons ago. My suggestion is to make sure you have your classic dark color suit as a part of your wardrobe, then look for something on the trendier side. You won’t ever regret having a good dark navy or dark gray suit that fits you perfectly; I promise.
Another place to go if you aren’t looking to spend what J.Crew and Suit Supply charge for a full suit is either H&M or UNIQLO. Both offer well-fitted suits off the rack for a price that is a fraction of what you’ll find other places. If you’re looking to make the outfit even more interesting, find a pair of boots that double as shoes appropriate for a suit. I’m huge fan of my black Chelsea boots with my suit, especially during the winter months.
Get My Look: 1. Find a full suit. 2. Look for a pair of boots that are appropriate with or without a suit. 3. Pick out a dress shirt.
