Fanny packs have gotten a bad rap recently. They are mostly associated with enthusiastic tourists and practical roller bladers from the ‘80s. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with either of those types of people, but I guess neither of them can be described as cool. I have been fighting for fanny packs for a while because they are just so darn convenient and finally a designer brought them to the runway. Imagine my excitement when I saw that in the Marc by Marc Jacobs fall/winter 2015 collection last month, the models donned adorable leather pouches around their waist. They were the perfect accessories to the playful yet almost military styled clothing. This collection was so amazing and I decided to try it out for myself.
Now that Marc by Marc Jacobs proved that fanny packs can, in fact, be fashionable, how does one go about styling them? I began with a pair of high waisted slit knee jeans. Of course, the fanny pack could be worn with skirts, dresses, shorts or anything else you can dream up, but for this time of year I figured that jeans were the best option. I then tucked a black chambray button-down shirt into those jeans. Because this frigid weather just won’t quit, I threw on a textured black and white winter coat. To give a nod to the old military theme of the collection, I added a little badge to the lapel of my coat. Then, of course, I wrapped my black leather fanny pack around my waist and I was off to finish my day, feeling free and unrestrained. Fanny packs are everything.
Get My Look: 1. A black and white coat. 2. A fanny pack. 3. High waisted jeans.
