Okay, I have a confession to make…I have not always been as fashionably inclined as I am today (I know, gasp). In fact, not too long ago, I believed wearing a floral skirt out was wild and daring. Fortunately, the fashion gods finally decided to show mercy on me by introducing me to a plethora of fashion sites like Style.com where I have been able to learn about all the latest trends from runway shows and tailor them to fit my personal style.
My latest fashion inspiration comes from Joseph Altuzarra’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear line. This collection features bold combinations of prints and patterns that Fashionistas/os will find irresistible. Models of Altuzarra’s show wore monochromatic gingham skirt suits, black and white striped shirt dresses, leather-like vests and long flowing dresses with bold, floral-like patterns. His eccentric pairing of patterns is what really inspired me to try adopting this runway look. I used to avoid patterns like the plague because I couldn’t handle the pressure of trying to make something that looked good on a mannequin look good on me.
Based on pieces I noticed in the fashion show, I decided to try and be bold by combining two different patterned and colored pieces together to make one fashionable look. I took a red plaid button-up and layered it over a striped sun dress to get a bold yet stylish look though the patterns were very conflicting. I added a black pair of wedged booties and a simple watch to keep everything focuses on my two main pieces.
This line inspired me to be daring and bold in terms of pattern usage and pattern pairing. Patterns can be scary, but here’s good rule of thumb to live by until styling patterns becomes second nature: choose one patterned piece and pair it with neutral or monochromatic pieces based on the colors in the pattern.
Get My Look: 1. Black and white striped dress. 2. Long sleeve plaid button-up. 3. A bold, confidence boosting lip color (deep matte lipsticks are staples during the winter)!
