STYLE GURU STYLE: Fringe

When I think of fringe I immediately think of two things: the wild West and a Chloé girl. So it was a bit of a surprise when fringe was shown in at least three fashion shows this season. It made me realize fringe is coming back, almost as fast as when the boho style became popular again. A big reason why fringe has come back is because designers have reinvented it. Before fringe was something strictly seen on jackets or ponchos, but now we’re seeing it pretty much everywhere else. We have Proenza Schouler, who showcased fringe skirts in his spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. It’s no surprise why they made a fringe skirt. It creates a lot of movement and can even add more shape and dimension to the body. What Proenza Schouler and many other designers have done with fringe is that they have used it as the final touch or extra detail to complete the outfit.

For my outfit, I stuck with a simple gray shirt to keep my reptile print kimono as the focus.  Of course, I needed another print, which is why I added my lace skirt. I love how lace goes with reptile print; it’s like two opposites working together. I took Proenza Schouler’s idea of adding fringe as a final touch. Since finding a fringe skirt can be tricky, I decided my fringe kimono, which reaches all the way to my ankle, could act in the same way as Proenza’s fringe skirt. What I love about wearing fringe in the lower half of the body is it creates more movement and attention when I walk.

Get My Look: 1. An oversized gray shirt. 2. A fringe kimono.  3. A black skirt.
