STYLE GURU STYLE: Tomboy 2.0

Ever since I was a little girl I have had an obsession with heels. I wanted to buy a pair every chance I had and wanted to wear them anywhere that I could. As I grew older (and campuses became harder to maneuver) I started to trade my six-inch pumps for boots and sneakers. The “girly girl” in me started to transform into a tomboy, with a feminine twist. If a collection could be representative of this aspect of my style, Yigal Azrouël’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection is it. Azrouël’s Cut25 collection combines tomboy-ish apparel with a touch of sexiness to keep the modern day Fashionista both comfortable and cute. From dresses to separates, no two ensembles in this collection resembled another. I loved how effortless the collection seemed, and how I could see myself in this collection (if only I could afford it!).

One of my favorite looks from the collection was a red, printed varsity jacket that was paired with matching shorts and an oversized plain white shirt. Instead of breaking my bank account trying to buy the ensemble, I put together an outfit that echoes the tomboy and the feminine Fashionista in me. I paired a blue, star-printed bomber jacket with a black asymmetrical skort. I paired the jacket and shorts with a loose white crop top and knee-high striped socks. I finished the look with my favorite trend present throughout the collection–lug-soled shoes. My black platform lug-sole sneakers take my outfit over the top and are a perfect representation of what “tomboy-chic” is all about. The ensemble was completed with a pair of lion studs and a black and gold leather bag.

This spring 2015 show was an inspiration to me and my style choices. It serves as an affirmation that it is okay to be a tomboy sometimes, and that there are ways to balance between my tomboy apparel and my feminine apparel to keep me both comfortable and cute.

Get My Look: 1. A printed bomber jacket. 2. A black skort. 3. A pair of platform lug-sole shoes.
