One of the biggest trends on the spring 2015 runways was undoubtedly plaid’s all-American cousin, the gingham print. Before your thoughts drift to Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz, this checked print was anything but ordinary in Diane von Furstenberg’s spring 2015 collection.
Diane von Furstenberg reinterpreted the classic black and white print by splashing it on asymmetrical-hemmed dresses, trousers and even shoes. The new gingham in her collection all at once made a statement while appearing classic and refined.
Inspired by the many inventive designs using gingham, I decided to give this trend a go myself. I scored a black and white checked romper that just so happens to be comfortable beyond belief. The button-down closure and classic collar gave the perfect opportunity to play up the prep of the print. I layered on a structured black blazer and paired it with sheer tights and booties. The blazer gives a professional feel, while a pair of booties keeps the look youthful and fresh. Last but not least, this quilted handbag with gold hardware gives this look just a hint of glamor.
Polished yet stylish, this outfit is perfect for switching up your look for an internship or a class presentation. Because gingham is so versatile, it’s just as easy to dress it down for casual wear with effortless slip-on sneakers and a sweater. I’m so excited to welcome gingham back into my closet this spring. With a little modern thinking, this checked print can take your usual spring look to the next level.
