In Kent, Ohio, if you’re not layering, then you’re going to be left out in the cold. Jil Sander’s recent fall ready-to-wear show capitalized on this very useful, ever stylish trend. The collection captured a darker essence with lots of jewel tones: deep navy, bold scarlet and rich green were all common colors within the body of looks. Large oversized pieces were staples and were often layered over tighter fitting basics to add dimension and a pop of interest. Bright belts kept everything together. It was a truly beautiful showing of cold weather wear.
With the outfit I put together, I attempted to capture the collection’s oversized silhouettes, depth-filled colors and mismatching prints while adding my own bit of bohemian flair. I opted for a not so basic long sleeve T-shirt, which I tucked into my favorite colored skinny cords, a warmer step up from basic jeans. I love the print on this shirt—the tiny floral print and large stripes allows for a subtle mixing of prints and complementing colors. My super oversized cardigan kept the neutral colors of the shirt’s print in play and added the perfect touch of coziness (It’s better than a blanket, I swear!).
As far as accessories are concerned, I cinched my waist in with a super skinny belt, mixing large small pieces keeps the whole look balanced, and an emerald green necklace to match the pants. Loads of rings add a bit of sparkle, too. I tucked my cords into a pair of striped socks that mimicked the print of the shirt.
My biggest takeaway from Jil Sander’s collection was the emphasis on large and small silhouettes and how they can best be layered. To keep from looking like you’re drowning in fabric, cinch the waist and mix oversized and tighter fitting pieces together. The result is cozy and a bit bohemian so you’ll never be left in the cold!
