I say it all the time—nothing will ever be the new black. So when I went scoping campus and found this Fashionista, I had to get her attention. People say it all the time, “Black is morbid,” “I look goth,” etc. I’m here to tell you that there is a reason you see all your favorite it girls walking the streets of New York City and Los Angeles in all-black ensembles. It works! Black is flattering and it goes with everything. It’s chic and can, essentially do no wrong.
Look at this Fashionista for inspiration. Her black nylons and simple black boots make her legs look thin and long. The short T-shirt dress brings movement to the look. Her black bag adds for a bit of structure in the otherwise moving ensemble while her rings polish her fingers and her beanie brings it all together in a current way. It even looks amazing underneath a winter jacket for those cold walks to class. The essential element here is her feather gray loose cardigan. The offset of a different but neutral color brings this all-black outfit a bit of contrast. It doesn’t wash her out, but instead, it brings her some light.
So why is this all-black craze taking off? You can see it here. This color scheme is extremely flattering. Each and every hair color, skin tone and body type can benefit from this neutrality. Also, you can’t deny how fashionable it looks. Black is the simplest and subtlest way to dress.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “You have to just wear all-black and own it. You don’t look dark; you look cool. It’s all about how you portray yourself.”
