Since arriving in Spain three weeks ago, I have experienced so many new and interesting sites: awe-inspiring architecture, beautiful landscapes, and, of course, European fashion. One of the things that has really struck me as a major difference between my study abroad site, Córdoba, and my hometown in the United States is the amount of history that influences every part of the city. From the incredibly impressive Mezquita de Córdoba, to the streets too narrow for cars, the history of this city is a part of daily life.
Everyday when I walk to school along cobblestone roads I am reminded of the rich history this place has. However, though the cobblestone streets are aesthetically pleasing, there is still something to be said for the paved sidewalks of Oberlin’s campus- they are a lot easier to walk on. The few days that I have decided to wear shoes with a small heal have resulted in me wobbling precariously and fearing a twisted ankle the whole way to school. Though there are women who are braver than I and still rock high heels, many college students can be spotted sporting more functional footwear. Sneakers and athletic shoes are paired with more dressed-up outfits to create an interesting contrast and to make a fashion-forward outfit wearable for a day of classes.
This Fashionista has chosen to make a statement with her functional shoes. These bright red sneakers are a classic and add a pop of color to her almost monochrome ensemble. A layered look like this is perfect for class. With a basic sweater layered on top of a comfy T-shirt, this Fashionista is ready for the chilly walk to school as well as overheated classrooms. I love the charcoal color of both her infinity scarf and coat. This dark shade of gray creates an interesting depth when paired with her all-black outfit. This subtle color palette plus the addition of eye-catching sneakers make this outfit fashion-forward as well as easy for a day of classes.
