STYLE GURU STYLE: Silhouettes And Spring

At the Alexander Wang spring 2015 ready-to-wear line, Wang debuts a look that has been around for decades. Using slim-line pants and fitted shirts, he creates a defining silhouette that will work for multiple body types and styles. The reason why this look has been around for so long is for this reason; silhouettes are one of the most flattering and important parts of fashion. Wang shows us this in his collection a few times, and he uses menswear-inspired items to do it.

I did not own slim-fit tuxedo pants, but I did own a pair of equestrian riding pants. They were fitted to my body, creating the bottom part of the ensemble. I wore a long sleeve crop top for the top part of the silhouette, and to top it off, I grabbed my varsity jacket (especially since it’s still a bit cold). As I recreated a look from Alexander Wang, I kept it true to my own style of clothes. By doing this, I created my own silhouette from the inspiration that he gave me on the runway.

Even though Alexander Wang’s looks were professional, I created my own look for the campus. It is an outfit that I can wear to class, dinner or a concert. It’s versatile, and if needed, I can always add accessories and change shoes. Stick to a basic outfit, and so many different looks can come out of one.

Alexander Wang is so inspiring as a designer. He takes risks, but he uses conventional pieces at the same time. By using masculine pieces for his spring ready-to-wear line, Wang shows that you can create a feminine outfit out of anything, even tuxedo jackets and pants.

Get My Look: 1. A nice pair of equestrian riding pants. 2. A long sleeve crop top. 3. A varsity jacket (I added my own letters). 4. Suede booties.
