One of the most talked about shows of this year’s fall/winter ready-to-wear Fashion Week was Dolce&Gabbana’s. In a spectacular display of ultra-feminine silhouettes, the two designers paid homage and honored mothers everywhere. “Je t’aime Mamam” (I love you, Mother) was scrawled over many dresses and children’s drawings even appeared on some of the apparel (à la Angelina Jolie’s darling wedding dress). Intricate lace detailing was everywhere, as were roses and vivid, playful colors. While Dolce&Gabbana may have only honored a certain type of woman, they did present many beautiful and delicate looks, as well as introduced new ideas into the fashion world.
Their show evoked in me an urge to do two things: call my mother to tell her that I loved her and try an ultra-feminine look. I tend to flock to tougher pieces with stiff or over-sized structure. I have never been a fan of the full skirt or massive floral prints. I do love lace though, and when I discovered these tights at Urban Outfitters, I just knew they would help me bring some more femininity into my wardrobe. While the front of the tights appear to be a solid, sheer black, the back feature a refreshing panel of lace. I love how flexible they are—I can wear a casual outfit with them like so, but I can just as easily throw on a cocktail dress for a more formal look.
The extent of my stint imitating Dolce&Gabbana’s fall/winter 2015 collection ended at the tights. I opted for a striped T-shirt dress and my favorite oversized gray cardigan. Although it is March, spring is nowhere in sight (can you see the snow behind me?), so I am taking advantage of the cold to wear my scarves before it gets too warm. My best friend gave me this infinity scarf and it has been perfect for keeping me both warm and stylish. Lastly, I choose black booties with gold accents and connected the gold with some simple gold jewelry. So this outfit wasn’t as lace-y or as floral-y as Dolce&Gabbana’s were, but I went a bit out of my comfort zone and experimented with the lace tights. Maybe next time I’ll pair them with something pink or floral-printed. No promises though.
Get My Look: 1. Cool, patterned tights. 2. An oversized, open-knit sweater. 3. A casual, patterned T-shirt dress.
