So many of the recent fall 2015 collections went luxe in a big way. More designers featured plush fur and shearling in their looks, and Gucci kicked it up a notch with hairy textures. Likewise, the general aesthetics of the shows shifted towards opulence, making a firm statement that normcore’s time has come to bid farewell. I was particularly drawn to Trussardi’s take on upper class sophistication through slick leathers.
I appreciated the collection’s neutrality in terms of color palette. It kept in touch with earthy autumn hues while incorporating steely winter grays. I took inspiration from the warmer notes, and created a look featuring as much faux leather as my wardrobe contained, footwear excluded. As a nod to the upcoming spring season, I chose a flouncy cropped blouse for my top. Bringing myself back into the current reality of it still being winter, I paired the top with some faux leather trousers and a varsity-style jacket. Unable to say no to animal print, I slipped into some leopard-print, textured shoes.
Interestingly enough, my outfit didn’t quite emulate the luxury represented on the runway; it seems more like a shout out to the end of normcore, with its practical and functional pieces. Yet, it works as a good transitional look between the two aesthetic trends, as it incorporates more variety than any normcore look ever would. It goes to show how versatile and fluid fashion can be. There is so much room for interpretation, and seemingly unwearable looks from the runway can become wearable with a few personal tweaks.
