ALL IN THE DETAILS: Freaking Out Over Fur

There’s no denying the blaring truth: fur is in. While style icons such as Rachel Zoe have been sporting their signature fur pieces for years, the trend has only just recently been working its way in to the blogging sphere. Fur was everywhere (I mean, EVERYWHERE) in street style fashion at the most recent New York Fashion Week. And can you guess what the quintessential fur piece was for most Fashion Week bloggers and attendees? That’s right, the fur coat.

I’ve spotted this Fashionista sporting her fur coat from Free People around campus quite a few times, and finally had to stop her to snag a photo. While the pairing of camouflage-print Dr. Marten’s with a stripe top and fur coat might have overwhelmed some Style Gurus, I found this mixture of patterns and textures practically ingenious. The femininity of her faux fur coat provides an interesting contrast against her shoes and high-waisted, black jeans; thus, transforming the outfit from punk to a beautifully feminine, monochromatic look. The zipper detailing found on the coat itself even hints at a more rocker chic vibe.

Faux fur coats come in handy during late winter months. While it is early March here in the Northeast, that hasn’t stopped Mother Nature from hitting us hard with yet another snowstorm after a week of 45-degree days. Fashionistas campus-wide are not sure whether or not it’s appropriate to pull out their spring wardrobe staples just yet. However, this Fashionista clued me in on the perfect time to wear a faux fur coat: “It’s perfect for days that aren’t too cold because it offers the right amount of warmth.”

How To: Are you yearning for those spring vibes, but it’s still too cold out? Drape a fur coat (preferably a white or cream colored coat) over your shoulders and pair it with a black maxi dress. Adorn a pair of ankle boots to complete this sophisticated, edgy look.
