So you may or may not know that March is Women’s History Month and March 8th was International Women’s Day, but now you do because I just told you. I am surrounded by women who inspire me to reach for my dreams everyday and there are an abundant of women to choose from to show how strong, hard-working and determined our gender is. In honor of this wonderful celebration, I took inspiration from this holiday and Alexis Mabille’s spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection.
With hair that reminded me of Rosie the Riveter, Alexis Mabille’s collection filled with denim pieces brought me back to a time of patriotism and Americana that I longed for in this cold weather. Luckily, the weather has been getting a bit nicer up here, and I actually wore shorts! But, I wore them with tights and knee high socks of course!
I know many hesitate when it comes to wearing denim on denim, but it’s not as intimidating as it seems. Wearing different shades of denim makes all the difference. My light wash button-down contrasts nicely with my dark wash marble denim shorts. Black tights and knee-high socks make the light wash shirt pop more.
The red lipstick matches my red bandana perfectly. I love this lipstick for its matte finish. The red/blue shade goes with all skin tones and can make teeth appear whiter. It was the perfect finishing touch to reach my full Rosie the Riveter potential.
