Although I was born in 1995, I wasn’t old enough during the decade to really experience the style and essence that those ten years had to offer. Sure, I had my fair share of Lisa Frank knick-knacks and saw my mom in her mom jeans on the regular, but it wasn’t until recently that I started to really notice how much of an impact the ’90s had on the fashion world. For example, Phillip Lim channeled the decade in his 3.1 Phillip Lim fall 2015 ready-to-wear show; many of his models wore looks that were clad with plaid, leather and ankle booties.
The feminine-grunge aesthetic of the show made me nostalgic for my five years of being a ’90s baby. Luckily, so many people share Lim’s and my love for the influential decade. Today was the first day of actual warmth in the Tri-state area and I saw countless Scarlet Knights in shorts, including this Fashionista. She successfully paired her leather shorts and plaid grungy zip-up together, channeling Lim’s vision for his collection.
As for shoes, the ’90s were all about wedges, flatforms or anything with a thick sole. Since sneaker wedges are currently in style, this Fashionista chose to keep her choice versatile with a pair that would be appropriate for either 20 years ago or today. The shiny silver coloring complemented the leather texture of her shorts, giving them a glossy finish which added to the overall feel of the outfit.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Since it’s not officially spring, but you still want to wear shorts, wear stockings or tights under them! Not only do they keep you warm, but they also add a little extra to your outfit.”
