I’m always searching for new designers to find inspiration from, and on my hunt I happened to come across the Bouchra Jarrar spring 2015 couture collection. I had never heard of this designer before and was pleasantly surprised by her collection. For a couture show, her designs weren’t as flamboyant and difficult to be seen off the runway as most others are. I was really impressed and was instantly fascinated with the whole collection, but what I liked most were the unique hemlines and textures of the skirts and dresses.
I was inspired by this runway show to create the perfect interview outfit that also represented my personal style. As college students we’re always being taught how to prepare for job interviews because ultimately we’re in school to eventually find a career. It’s practically molded into our brains that first impressions are lasting ones and you should always dress to impress. Being the Fashionista that I am, I’m always up for dressing in professional attire, but I definitely won’t be caught in a boring two-piece suit. My style reflects who I am, and it is necessary for me to show that through even when I’m in a professional setting.
There are many ways to incorporate personal style into business attire. An outfit as simple as a pencil skirt and a nice blouse can make the right impression. Using my inspiration from the runway show, I decided to wear a black leather, asymmetrical skirt that put a spin on the typical pencil skirt. It also had texture, which added great detail. To play it a little safer with the rest of the outfit, I went with a sheer, white long sleeve that had hints of black on the shoulders. Honestly, you can never go wrong with black and white, especially for an interview.
For the finishing touches, I added a pair of patent black pumps, which are an essential and can be worn for any occasion. As for accessories, this is one of those moments where less is definitely more. I kept it simple by just wearing a pair of stud earrings, a simple watch, and an oversized clutch just big enough to fit extra copies of my résumé.
