Spring is in full swing in New Orleans, causing Fashionistas to pull out their sundresses and sunglasses. Getting dressed always seems so much easier in the spring compared to the past few months, during which you had to spend hours attempting to layer and still match in order to brave the cold. While putting together a fashionable outfit for warm weather can be quick and easy, I often find myself losing sight of my personal style and blending into a sea of simple dresses or cutoffs and tank tops. This week’s Fashionista showed a perfect example of how to make a simple warm weather outfit align with her personal style.
I noticed this Fashionista’s floral kimono right away and this type of outerwear is one of my favorite ways to spice up an otherwise plain outfit. Kimonos work well for spring’s changing temperatures because they’re light and breezy, yet can still help a girl face the extreme air conditioning that’s typical in the South. The florals on this student’s outerwear create a bohemian vibe and add some color and print to the all-black look. This kimono combines the trend with the big, bold florals seen in many designer’s spring collections, but I also love this crocheted, fringe version.
This Fashionista kept the rest of her look casual and comfortable for a long day of classes. She wore a black sundress and black combat boots, both of which should be staples in every girl’s closet because of their versatility and the cool edge they give any outfit. I loved this student’s layered jewelry, which she told me was almost all vintage. Her beautiful rings, eye-catching detailed bracelet and necklaces all add a touch of her personal style to the look. Accessories can always help you to stand out, whether you wear a cool cuff or a pair of colorful tinted sunglasses like this Fashionista.
What’s your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I’m always drawn towards bohemian styles, but am on the edgier side. I like to mix trendier pieces like my kimono with my vintage jewelry so that I keep my look unique. I love vintage jewelry like my grandma’s ring I’m currently wearing because nobody will ever have the same piece.”
