Here is the rule about fashion: There are no rules. Since spring is here, I wanted to make sure Fashionistas and Fashionistos know that they can wear what they want and not worry about wearing the colors and styles everyone is wearing this season. Today’s Fashionista stayed far from the springtime stereotype of bright colors and stuck with a black and white palette.
I absolutely loved the direction she went in for this spring look. Instead of focusing on color, she focused on patterns, hems and textures to embody spring. To start off, she wore a cropped, Aztec print sweater. There is no denying the popularity of cropped tops this season. Just look at the beautiful spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection by Oscar de la Renta; so many looks incorporated printed cropped tops that I wish I could afford. The Fashionista’s look continued with a black high-waisted skater skirt that gave a flirty, feminine feel, black leather ankle booties and my personal favorite part of the look, an embellished suede fringe backpack. Here is a similar one. Fringe is everywhere this season and to see it in an uncommon material such as suede added a unique touch to her look.
This Fashionista clearly demonstrates that you can still wear darker colors in spring. All you have to do is wear those colors on pieces that do correspond to the season, whether that means a cropped top or a short, flowy skirt.
One Simple Change: Do you have a date this weekend? To make this look perfect for date night, switch out ankle booties for black espadrille wedges and the fringe backpack for a fringe cross-body bag and you got yourself a flirty date look.
