WHAT TO WEAR: Interviews

As this semester is coming to an end, I can feel the tension of the seniors that are graduating in May. I am so glad that isn’t me just yet. We are all afraid of that ever-impending “F-word.” The future is scary. As soon as you enter college, your parents and every other adult you encounter always have to ask, “What are your plans after school?” This question has become the equivalent of fingernails on a chalkboard (surprisingly those still exist in some of my classrooms) to most students. When we were younger, that question was much easier. With hard work, determination and confidence, your answer to that scary question about the future could be easier than you thought.

One of the first steps to nailing your dream job or internship is making an amazing impression during your interview. An interview can make or break your chances of working at a company. Here are a couple of tips that should help you feel prepared: 1. Do your research—know everything there is to know about the company. Trust me, the hiring manager will ask. 2. Sell yourself—don’t be afraid to brag about yourself a little bit. You’re there to show the hiring manager why you are the person for the job. 3. Show your personality—be yourself during an interview. Confidence is key. 4.Ask questions—your hiring manager will most likely ask, “Do you have any questions?” This question is not optional. Refer to number one. Researching the company is super important for coming up with good questions to ask. 5. Dress for the job you want.

Let’s refer to tip number five for a second. This Fashionista is definitely showing us how to dress for the job we want. I don’t care what your parents told you when you were little; people do judge books by their covers. First impressions are imperative, and dressing well will help. Choose an outfit that fits the organization that you are applying to work for. Business wear doesn’t have to lack style. This Fashionista is wearing a teal blazer that would be perfect for any interview. She completes her ensemble with a printed blouse, a statement necklace, a wrap skirt and a pair of heels. This look is professional, yet extremely chic.

Let your personality shine through when choosing an outfit for an interview. A great look along with an even better attitude will for sure help you land a job or an interview.

One Simple Change: Her heels are great for impressing a potential future boss at an interview. Swap the shoes with a pair of printed sneakers to make this ensemble perfect for a day out with friends over the weekend.
