Name: Amber Wilder

Role: Threads Fashion Show Designer

College Fashionista: What is your inspiration for your collection?
Amber Wilder: Having had Vera Wang as a muse for as long as I can remember, she really inspired my collection. She began her career as an ice skater. I really see ice skating dresses as incredibly glamorous, sexy and elegant, so I took that and ran [with it].

CF: What did you learn from participating in Threads?

AW: By participating, I learned the importance of staying two steps ahead of where you want to be at all times, not necessarily in fear of falling behind, just to stay ahead.

CF: What inspired you to become a designer?
AW: Growing up, I had a sketch pad where I would always practice drawing and learned that I loved drawing clothes and taking note of the way fabric falls in certain areas. When I learned to hand sew in 6th grade, I would always try to make clothes for my old Barbies and my sister’s doll, even if the fabric was out of an old sock. Through high school, both skills enhanced and I fell in love with the idea of design.
