STYLE GURU STYLE: Spring Has Sprung

There is something so cliché, yet classic about floral prints in spring. It’s like every year we know they are coming and every year designers continue to use them in their collections. Some designers are even known for their floral prints, such as Caroline Herrera, and she did not disappoint in her spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection although she took a different approach this time.

Caroline Herrera is always known for making something pretty, and she never fails. Although flowers may have been her starting point for her prints this season, they incorporated new fabrics and embellishments with unexpected materials, with each garment pushing the boundaries. I was inspired by Herrera’s collection to push the boundaries.

I decided to take my usual springtime floral shift dress and not pair it with my tan sandals and cardigan this time. I decided I was going to edge it up this season. While this dress was usually one I would wear to brunch with my grandmother on Sunday afternoons, it is now a dress I can hit the town with my best girl friends on Friday nights. I paired my floral dress with a brown leather jacket (that I made three-quarter length sleeves because we all know it is way too hot in Florida right now to be wearing a leather jacket) and my tan booties. I threw on my round, blue-reflective sunglasses and decided that I like pushing the boundaries—it’s fun!

I think of this dress as an extremely versatile piece, which is essential to have in your closet. I can still wear it to brunch with my grandmother, but when I pair it with leather it becomes a totally new ensemble. Then if I take the jacket off and pair it with an elegant heel, it’s perfect for date night!
