It is a muggy, rainy day today at Kent State University and Christine is wearing heeled ankle boots, tights and a prep school plaid skirt. Did I mention that it is also 9:00 a.m. in the morning? Christine is one of those girls who is always dressed to the nines and looks flawless constantly. To top it off, she’s one of the nicest people that I have met and one of the most interesting. She has a very cool and fascinating relationship with the fashion industry. She is not only a student at the Kent State School of Fashion Merchandising but also a working model and is spending her last semester in school studying abroad in Paris this summer. She sat down with me to discuss her experiences.
Name: Christine Lamendola
Role: Model and Fashion Merchandising Student
CollegeFashionista: How did you get started as a model?
Christine Lamendola: I have always loved performing and being in front of the camera so when Kent had a model call, I took advantage of it and from there things just kind of grew. I had people calling me to model garments for them and photographers that asked if they could work with me. It was something I never planned on doing in my life, but now I love it!
CF: What is your favorite thing about modeling?
CL: IÂ love being able to change your personality based on what you are wearing. It’s like becoming a different person, just like actors do on screen or stage. I also love wearing some of the amazing garments that have been made by very talented designers. Sometimes it feels more like I am wearing art than a gown. I think by far my favorite thing about modeling is the runway, it gives you this insane adrenaline rush right before you walk on and thats the best feeling ever.
CF: What are you most looking forward to about studying abroad?Â
CL: I have never been abroad before so I am really looking forward to seeing the everything with fresh and wide eyes. But more importantly I am looking forward to growing as a person through experiences and cultures.
CF: What do you plan to do with your degree upon graduation?
CL: I would love to work doing visual merchandising, on a creative team that helps to determine the store layout displays and mannequins. I would also like to get involved in fashion show production, but its all up in the air and could change tomorrow!
