Judging by most of the pre-fall 2015 lines that emerged during New York Fashion Week, it seems that the 1970s are making a tasteful comeback. The runway was filled with wide leg pants, ponchos and a decent amount of denim. It’s obvious that most trends are gravitating towards a blast from the past. One of my favorite collections that had been showcased for the upcoming fall season has to be the Nanette Lepore pre-fall 2015 line. Nanette Lepore has always been one of my must-watch designers, for her work always showcases eclectic designs and a beautiful color palette. Her fall line was no different. Her aesthetic is always driven by traveling to different places to find influence. With the usage of pinks, blues and prints such as paisley and floral, Lepore gives off a look of casual-chic, ready for the beach, a day in the city or a cool midsummer night.
Upon first glimpse, I knew I had to find a way to show the likeness of this collection. I’ve said many times before, but I’ll say it again—I love prints. I’ve learned to tone it down and that there’s nothing wrong with a solid color ensemble, but when you’re planning to channel Nanette, you have to be bold. To make myself stand out, I decided to use a floral pencil skirt as my staple piece. Since black was an undertone in the piece, I paired the skirt with a black tank to give it a dressy, yet casual appeal.
Since the weather has been ranging from chilly to warm, I threw on a leather jacket that stuck to the color scheme of blue and black. Of course, a strappy heel or sandal would top off the look great, but I decided to add a little edge to the look. I opted to wear a pair of dark blue booties that I recently bought from Forever 21 and I cannot get enough of! Adding some flair to the look, I wore an orchid lip color and some awesome round blue lens mirrored sunglasses. Finalizing the look, I chose a fun Pamela Barsky clutch that fits my personality too well.
This line is something an avid Fashionista would expect from Nanette Lepore, but at the same time, it is something new with the color palette used. Color is something one shouldn’t be afraid of. To tone it down, keep one piece in your look as a statement in color or print, wearing solid colors to complement what you want to stand out!
Get My Look: 1. A floral skirt. 2. A pair of booties. 3. A pair of mirrored sunglasses.
