This week, when deciding what to wear out to brunch with my gal pals, I sought some inspiration from the professionals. While browsing through a plethora of looks from the latest fashion shows, I discovered my latest obsession: Burberry Prorsum’s resort 2015 collection. This was just one of a handful of collections that prominently featured the tie-dye trend, with Michael Kors, Fausto Puglisi and Bottega Veneta also joining in on the sudden surge of Woodstock-inspired excitement.
Burberry’s signature trench coats made an appearance in the resort 2015 collection, but this time they were joined by midi skirts, soft textures and hints of charming, animated graphics. Fashion designer Christopher Bailey proved that tie-dye isn’t just for hippie wannabes and musical festival junkies; it has an unforeseen refined side to it, which he captured in this collection’s dip-dyed trench coats, dresses and skirts. My favorite look was the collection’s finale dress, a gorgeous, dip-dyed maxi that featured ruched accents and a tasteful plunging neckline.
I couldn’t help but add my own personal flair to this dress, so I opted for boho accessories to mirror the hippie-esque vibe of my loose-fitting dress. An absolute must-have for spring, strappy sandals paired well with this dress to keep it casual, although nude wedges would have added a chic, dressy touch to it. A long necklace and a cross-body purse with a bold, patterned strap complemented the dress without overpowering its soft colors. Putting this look together proved that there’s more to tie-dye than corny tourist T-shirts and beach cover-ups, and I’m excited that designers have started incorporating this trend into their collections.
