STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Spring Layers

While in some parts of the country, temperatures have hit the 80’s, spring can still be a bit unpredictable. For those breezy days when shorts and a tank top are out of the question, take a cue from this Fashionista’s book and layer up. That’s right: layering isn’t just for winter. A chambray shirt is a great alternative to a light jacket when layered over a T-shirt or dress.

Wearing your denim shirt as a jacket is a fresh, modern way to get more wear out of the stylish basic. When it gets warmer, wear the shirt with a pair of lace shorts and sandals. Underneath, this Fashionista rocks a simple black T-shirt dress, which could be worn alone in the summer months. Basic black leggings help up the warmth factor as well.

Bright aqua Vans pop against the black backdrop of this look. The bold color is perfect for spring and is a more unexpected choice than basic black or white. A gray cross-body bag is a modern classic. The bag is my go-to because it holds all the essentials and lets you go hands-free, which is super important when you’re trying to haul back bags of groceries to your dorm room. A simple pendant necklace is a soft, personal touch.

This outfit would be perfect for class on a chillier day. It would also work great for a day of sightseeing or even just the library. The entire look is made up of basics, but the styling keeps it interesting.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Rework pieces that you already own. I like wearing summer dresses even when it’s colder here under jackets and shirts.”
