STYLE GURU STYLE: East And West

The bohemian vibes radiating from Rebecca Minkoff’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection make for the ultimate festival lookbook. The subtle pattern mixing and use of lightweight materials create looks that work great during the changing of the seasons.

I was mainly inspired by the perfect blend of East and West Coast influences within the collection. Minkoff herself is a bicoastal businesswoman and always seems to master a balance of urban and laid back elements in her own personal fashion choices. I really admire her unique sense of style and I love that this was reflected in this free-spirited collection.

I chose to keep my outfit much more urban than bohemian, while still striving to achieve the same versatility as the runway ensembles. I was particularly fond of look 19 of the collection, which features a shearling-lined leather jacket and a pair of knit shorts. I used to think that being able to wear both shorts and leather jackets was a privilege reserved for the mild climates of the west. Now, I plan on rocking this style all the time before the weather gets too hot.

For my outfit, I wore a simple faux leather moto jacket balanced with high-waisted trouser shorts (my very pale legs got to see the light for the very first time this year). I chose a cross-body bag, like many of the looks in the collection, as well as a few other black accessories. My patterned T-shirt and socks may not count as actual pattern mixing, but they helped to add a little more detail to my outfit. This interpretation of Minkoff’s collection does not feature nearly as much fringe or feathers, but my goal was merely to emulate that merge of bicoastal style.

Get My Look: 1. Faux leather moto jacket. 2. High-waisted trouser shorts. 3. A cross-body bag.
