If there’s one trend I truly believe will never go out of style, it’s layers. After all, they’re as practical as they are fashionable. Wearing layers in in-between seasons like spring and fall allows the wearer to remove and to add pieces as needed to adjust for the unpredictable temperatures outside. At the same time, these same pieces combined make for an intricate look that changes throughout the day. Lanvin’s fall 2015 collection exemplifies the benefits of monotone layers, a look I have tried to imitate myself.
Black is by far one of the easiest colors to wear, making it a common choice for looks of all one color. Most all-black looks aren’t necessarily considered “monotone” because wearing all-black doesn’t make the statement that wearing, say, all red does. However, it is still a very appropriate color that you can layer because you can do so without having to make a statement.
A monotone outfit can easily end up looking bland, especially if the color is drab or if there is no texture involved. Black is certainly one of the drabbest colors out there, making it an easy target when it comes to bland, monotone looks. It is for this very reason that I elected to wear this flowy vest. It breaks up the slick black jacket and the sleek black pants without distracting from the look as a whole. Plus, the added texture makes the whole outfit that much more interesting.
