The Alexis Mabille fall 2015 ready-to-wear show was a beautiful collection comprised of very modern streetwear-inspired pieces. Cozy knits in shades of heather gray, navy and other neutrals filled the runway and simple accessories and hardware upped the edge on each look. This collection truly made comfort look cool and fashion-forward. I loved the layering of textures and fabrics; soft chiffons fell gracefully over structured and smooth knits. I also think it’s wonderful that designers are using fabrics that are normally isolated to the gym and transforming them to create modern and trendy garments. I tried to do the same in my own styling this week, but opting for a bit bolder pop of color.
My starting piece here was this fabulously soft and cozy pair of joggers. I love the cropped cut and thinner fabric—it feels a bit more fitting for the warmer weather. Another plus to these very on-trend not quite sweatpants? They’re super flattering. The higher cut nicely emphasizes the waist and looks great with a tucked in T-shirt. I chose the hot pink V-neck for a bit of color (and also because pink and black just belong together), which is more fitting for spring.
For some added edge, I chose to mix metals as far as accessories are concerned. I matched my earrings to the tee and chose a chunky statement necklace to highlight the neckline of the shirt and elevate this very casual and comfy look a bit more. Simple black and white flats matched well and left the interest in the bright pop of color on top.
The showing of cozy separates with added color was a great inspiration for me. I think that this trend is very simple to mimic with basic pieces that are hiding out in the back of your closet. The whole combination is comfortable, modern and super easy (making it perfect come finals week, Fashionistas!). If you want your basics to look less blah, definitely opt for a pop of color!
