It is spring, and this means I should have packed away all my dark clothing to make room for floral. Truth be told, that could never happen. I enjoy my dark wardrobe far too much for that kind of banishment. Lucky for me, many spring 2015 ready to wear collections are singing the same tune. As I browsed the web for some spring style inspiration, I noticed a trend. Collections by Marc Jacobs and Sacai focused their lines around the military trend; a trend I thought would disappear as the weather began to rise. The Greg Lauren spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection really stood out to me. Using material from vintage army tents Lauren crafted a collection that is both edgy and feminine. Even though we are transitioning to warmer weather Lauren uses a dark color pallet in his collection and that is something I can get with.
In an attempt to recreate the runway looks of Greg Lauren, I began with my vintage army jacket. The roughness and age of the coat mirror those seen in Lauren’s collection. I like the ruggedness of the jacket because it tells a story. Spots where patches were once sewn can be seen on the sleeves as well as on the breast. Beneath the coat, I slipped on a black dress with a pleather insert at the neck. A pair of round oversized sunglasses are perfect for the springtime. The accessory shields a Fashionista from the sun in a trendy fashion.
Each year I become saddened at the thought of retiring my army jacket for the as the imminent heat of the summer creeps closer and closer. This spring Marc Jacobs pointed out, “Military clothes are part of the fashion vernacular now.” It looks like I am in luck this year.
Get My Look: 1. A vintage army jacket. 2. A sleek black dress. 3. Large, round sunglasses.Â
