May is National Fitness Month. Join CollegeFashionista as we celebrate fashion and fitness all month long using the hashtag #CFsweats.
Part of getting into a regular workout routine is about finding an exercise or activity that you love. Ever since the first time I hopped on one of those yellow bikes and found myself dancing on their handlebars, I was hooked on SoulCycle and a proud member of the tribe. I don’t know if it is the loud music, candles, inspirational coaching or indescribable energy of the class, but after I go to SoulCycle, I feel like I can accomplish anything (not before a good shower, that is). It is one of the most challenging, inspiring, invigorating, soul searching (pun not intended) ways to sweat and spend 45 minutes.
Our Style Gurus in NYC and Chicago will be coming together tonight as part of National Fitness Month and #CFsweats to spin and sweat at SoulCycle studios in both cities. Aren’t able to attend? Still get inspired by our exclusive interview with one of our favorite NYC SoulCycle instructors, Becca, as she gives us the inside scoop on her SoulCycle journey, what’s on her workout playlist and more!
CollegeFashionista: How long have you been a SoulCycle instructor?
Becca: Nineteen months and counting!!!Â
CF: What first brought you to SoulCycle?
B: My roommate brought me to my first class in May 2012. It was a 7:30 p.m. class in Union Square with Rique. I was so confused….no, CRAZY CONFUSED…..but it made me feel so good about so many aspects of my life that I knew I needed to come back.Â
CF: What is your favorite part about teaching?
B: I love my riders more than words can describe!! It’s not just the impact I know I make on their physical and mental well-being, I’ve also made so many new friends who I connect with on such a deep level. The relationships that we create in our little Soul world are so unbelievably special.Â
CF: What are your top three workout jams?
B: – Wild At Heart – Gloriana
– Miss You – Mat Kearney
– Want to Want Me – Jason Derulo
**I know, the most random mix
CF: How do you stay fit outside of SoulCycle?
B: I just discovered I’m a running junkie. I’m easing my way into races. I just finished my first half marathon and it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced. I want to get a few more halves under my belt, then I think I’ll consider a full marathon!
CF: What is in your gym bag?
B: – My computer
– An extra workout outfit
– Headphones
– Vitamin Water Zero
– Cosmetic bag with waterproof mascara, concealer, Clarins liquid bronzer, astringent and deodorant
CF: What is your go-to healthy snack?
B: I am obsessed with watermelon.
CF: Any advice for college students looking to get active?Â
B: I was a gym rat when I was in college. I made it a priority to get a couple of workouts in a week (schedule permitting, of course). I had a couple of friends who I would buddy up with and we would encourage each other to go. I also walked to all my classes. We were allowed to have cars on campus, but I always figured taking those few extra steps couldn’t hurt. I would still take my own advice.
