A runway show that has caught my attention lately is See by Chloé’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection which debuted last September. British designer, Clare Waight Keller pictured her worldly muse venturing to the Hamptons for her best friend’s summer wedding. As a result, the collection was full of beach-inspired prints and nautical motifs, such as anchors and maritime stripes. Keller wasn’t afraid of mixing prints like giant polka-dots with feminine floral patterns. The collection’s Oshkosh B’gosh-inspired latter outfit and floral prints made me nostalgic for my childhood, but my favorite look was Keller’s denim on denim outfit.
Over the last year, this denim on denim look has become a major trend, not only on the runway but also in street fashion. So today I decided to try it out for myself with the denim pieces I could find in my closet. I wore my favorite light blue chambray with a pair of light washed high-waisted Eddie Bauer cut-off shorts which I made myself. I accessorized with a short gold necklace, a few gold bangles and a pair of Dolce Vita brown leather sandals which add a spring/summer feel to the ensemble. To add a little color, I decided to wear my favorite plum colored MAC lipstick and blush.
This is the first time I’ve tried this trend and I definitely think that I will try it again. Next time, I’ll dress it up a little bit and instead of pairing the chambray with a pair of cutoff shorts I’ll trade those for a pair of light wash skinny peg jeans with a pair of nude ankle strap sandals and add a chunky gold watch, which would be the perfect outfit for a girl’s night out! This trend can be slightly tricky because not all denim goes together. One tip to keep in mind when you’re trying this denim on denim look out for yourself is to make sure that if you’re not matching denims, to wear colors that complement each other. If not, you could take this look from a fashion oh-la-la to a fashion faux pas!
