And we’re off. I’m officially enjoying my first week of summer along with my fellow Hawkeyes, and let me tell you, there is no greater feeling. Free of schoolwork and classes, there is no better time to experiment with your look and rebuild your wardrobe. So when I saw the Louis Vuitton 2016 resort collection, I got pretty pumped to add some beachy, boho trends to my closet. Hemlines varied, but the summery feel was present look after look. The models even paraded around the pool as the sun set to show off the new collection. Full of earthy tones and sprinkled with crop tops and maxi skirts, I couldn’t wait to give it a go.
Co-ordinate sets are gracing the shelves and runways everywhere. On a normal day I’m #blessed if my socks match, not to mention my actual outfit. Co-ords take away the hassle of trying to piece together a look that gels well from what you have in your closet and make life a little easier by offering the matching outfit as a set. It is officially cool to match your top and bottom to a T. Most of the sets keep it light and fun with patterns and graphics, but in the spirit of the resort collection, I chose a neutral-colored maxi set. The Louis Vuitton show is packed with texture. While the color of my look is plain, it has braided ribbing throughout the material for a little extra texture to keep things interesting.
I threw on my go-to summer gladiator sandals to add a casual beachy element to this look. I dipped into the choker trend with my gold compass necklace. It’s perfect for adding a little extra something to any look without overdoing it. Paired with some gold rings and earrings, and tapping into my inner Greek goddess, I officially felt ready for an evening out on the coastline.
Achieving the ultimate boho summer look comes with finding the balance between laid back and put together. Most of the models in the show walked the runway with natural and tousled hair, so I followed suit. You really can’t go wrong with a low, messy bun. The contrast between elegant and sloppy adds another layer to the look.
So here are my rules to summer style: 1. Co-Ords are cool. 2. Less is more. 3. Rock the bedhead. Most importantly, enjoy your time off and have a little fun with your wardrobe this season!
Get My Look: 1. Find a Co-Ord set that fits your personality. 2. Put some strappy sandals on. 3. Top off with light jewelry and neutral make-up.
