Comme des Garçons had an incredible spring/summer show for 2015 that played upon feminine patterns with a masculine influence. Rei Kawakubo, the designer for this secondary collection, did a wonderful job creating a line that was simple and clean cut while also interesting. Peter Pan-inspired collars had a moment on a few dresses that are reminiscent of schoolgirl fashion with a twist. Moreover, the fabrics used along with the simpler cuts made for an appealing visual that was neither over nor underwhelming. It was the perfect balance of minimalism and print for a summer collection. Polka-dots were also used liberally throughout the show in conjunction with solid contrast pieces.
I really liked the outfit with the dotted pants and boxy white collared shirt but wanted to put a more accessible twist on it. The athletic trend is huge right now and works really well with the almost tomboy feel of Kawakubo’s line. I took a white cropped T-shirt with a spirit jersey collar to achieve the shape of the look. Then I paired it with polka-dot joggers that were slim enough to streamline the ensemble and create a more flattering silhouette for myself. The Clubmaster sunglasses and patterned oxfords added to the masculine feel of the outfit while also being vaguely girly. I grabbed the cherry red Ted Baker tote at the very last moment because I felt that, being spring and all, I wanted some color in my ensemble. I love this purse’s unapologetic hue, and its contrast to the black and white really makes it pop.
