Hello fashion lovers, my name is Silvia, and I am excited to be a Style Guru for USF. I was born and raised on a small army base named Camp Zama in Japan. Living in Japan, I had the opportunity to join a modeling and acting agency located in Tokyo called JUNES. Through JUNES, I was able to be a hair model, a runway model, a fashion magazine model, an actress in TV commercials and an extra in a film. Before modeling, I always believed that models had an easy job and that fashion was pretty self-explanatory—you buy what you like and can afford and wear it—but I was completely wrong.
I realized how much work and effort models, as well as everyone else involved in the fashion industry, have to input in order to make a successful campaign or image for their product. In addition, I learned that fashion is not just a combination of clothes a person buys, but is a way is a form of self-expression — a personalized form of art. Thus, modeling allowed me to form a newfound respect for the fashion industry.
I currently have seven years of experience as a model and actress through JUNES and had the opportunity to intern at their agency headquarters last summer. Working with fashion is definitely not an easy job, as it requires constant innovation and creativity in order to keep up with the next new “trend,” but I believe that is the main reason why it is such an interesting field.
If I had to describe my typical look, it would have to be anything with floral. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE floral prints because they are not only flirty and cute, but they are also elegant and classy—the perfect mix. When it comes to footwear, I always end up wearing my brown boots. They are not only super comfortable, but versatile to match any outfit (from dresses to jeans). I also love the fashion from the ’50s and ’60s because those are the years when Audrey Hepburn, my idol and inspiration, illustrated her beauty and elegance through her grace and of course her clothes. My dream is to be someone as classy and beautiful (both inside and outside) like her.
I am currently studying public relations, and hope to intern at a fashion magazine such as Marie Claire or Seventeen during or upon graduation. Thus, I’m so excited that I get to be a Style Guru this summer and hopefully in the future as well in order to expand my fashion experience.
