Some girls find their love on the stage while others fall in love with sports, and then there are the little girls who fall in love with fashion. While many girls think they would enjoy working in the fashion industry, few follow their passion of style and trends to turn it into a career. While attending the University of St. Thomas, which does not offer a degree in fashion, this ambitious, inspired student attends a partner college, St. Kate’s, to graduate with a degree that will allow her to do something she truly loves.
Name: Hannah Schwartz
Role: Fashion Merchandising Student
CollegeFashionista: When did you fall in love with fashion and realize it was what you wanted to do with the rest of your life?
Hannah Schwartz: I don’t think there was one moment where I knew fashion was what I wanted to do, but I think it has just always been there, and my love for it has continuously grown over the years. There is always something new to love!
CF: What is your favorite aspect of fashion you have studied thus far?
HS: I recently took a class on the history of fashion where we learned about how fashion has changed over the years. It was cool to look back and learn about historic events and what kind of impact they had on the fashion of each time period. It seems crazy that trends that we swore we would never wear again from the ’90s era that we grew up in are making a comeback in 2015.Â
CF: Where do you get your inspiration when it comes to your own fashion?
HS: When I need a quick idea for an outfit, my go-to is Pinterest. I also get a lot of my inspiration from the people around me. If I see something I like, I try to think of ways I could put my own unique spin on it. The best part of fashion is that one day you can be edgy in a pair of ripped jeans and a leather jacket and the next day you are rocking a floral sundress. I am also borderline obsessed with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.Â
CF: Where do you see yourself in the fashion industry in the future?
HS: I change my mind all the time. I would love to write for a fashion magazine one day or be a stylist for runway shows. I think I will end up trying a lot of different jobs just so I get a little taste of everything!
