As a rule, I’ve pretty much never followed the rules. Not because I’m doing a thing where I’m trying to be “out there,” but because I always just do whatever I feel like doing. “I do what I want,” is my catch phrase (lame and overused, but true). Fashion-wise, I’ve never cared about the ‘no navy and black together’ or ‘no brown and black together’ or ‘no white after labor day’ or putting two colors together that aren’t the same shade. This is because somehow, I try these things on, and I think, “hey, this looks pretty good,” so to heck with the rules! You guys can keep following the rules if you want, but some of my favorite outfits have come from breaking them.
This brings me to the outfit I chose to wear for my last article. As I’ve said before, my style is eclectic and I wouldn’t say I prescribe to any one term/phrase to describe it. However, if there’s one piece that I’ve been obsessed with for the longest and don’t see it coming to an end, it would be overalls. They give so much more to an outfit by extending to your torso, turning a plain outfit into something interesting and unique. When shopping, I’m always drawn to overalls and overall variations, which brought me to this ASOS gem. It’s overalls and a skirt combined: a pinafore! I’ve got a denim addiction, so this piece has just combined all of my favorite things. Thank you, ASOS, for making my dreams come true. To go with the girly/youthful nature of the denim pinafore, I added slightly sporty looking pieces: a white T-shirt with blue contrast trim and blue, white and black flatform Teva’s. After seeing the adidas by Stella McCartney fall 2015 ready-to-wear line as well as the trend of tennis shoes with all types of outfits, I decided to give it a go. When I was young, Teva’s were the ultimate dweeb footwear choice. They used to be so lame—my parents had to beg me to wear mine to amusement parks ’cause they were good to walk in and stayed on my feet. I dreaded having to wear those things. Somehow, they’ve become relevant, and I’m actually super into the way they look now—and they are crazy comfy. I’m definitely on the Teva train and I’m not getting off anytime soon.
What some people might critique about this outfit is the different color of the blue on the Teva’s, the blue on the shirt, and the blue of the denim. But to those critics I would say: to heck with you! The simplicity of the shirt is what I liked with the pinafore, and the similar color scheme of the shoes topped it off perfectly. For any of you guys about to battle the summer heat, I would say: grab some overalls and Teva’s and quit worryin’ about color matching. And with that, I bid you all adieu.
