Hi there fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Emily, and I’m here to give you all the basics about myself. I am a Public Relations major and Creative Writing minor at Valparaiso University. My dream job is to either be a fashion publicist or a fashion editor, but I’ll see where the road takes me. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, and I am thrilled. While my university does not offer extensive (or any) classes in fashion or fashion business, I believe in carving out opportunities for myself, which is why I decided to begin a new journey as a Style Guru.
While I absolutely adore the quaintness of my small town university and the countless Fashionistas/os that inspire me on a daily basis, this summer I will be fulfilling my Style Guru duties from the heart of one of my favorite cities, Denver. That’s right! This south suburban Chicago native is making her way to the Mile High City, where I will be working with Denver Style Magazine as an editorial intern. The rise in Denver fashion bloggers and the pure effortlessness of the Denver fashion scene will push me to be as creative as possible while also inspiring the rest of the CollegeFashionista community.
Surprisingly, fashion did not become an interest of mine until my freshman year of college. In high school, band T-shirts and tight, ripped skinny jeans were my daily uniform. While I still rock the occasional band T-shirt here and there, my style has evolved into sophistication with a touch of edginess. Recently, I have started to take more sartorial risks when it comes to mixing patterns and experimenting with trends. After being able to interview Nicky Hilton about her latest book, 365 Style, which you can read here, I was given advice from her on how to dress based on your personal preferences and to not focus on how good you look to others. If you are happy in your own skin, then you can rock any intriguing trend you want to try!
However, there are some items that I know will never go out of style, such as a simple chambray top and a navy striped T-shirt dress, which I excitedly put on during one of the first warm days of the season. I jazzed up this otherwise simple outfit with some stand out fringe sandals and vintage rings.
I am looking forward to writing this summer, and I hope you all enjoy my posts as much as I enjoy writing them.
