Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Jessica and I’m thrilled to be a Style Guru this summer. I’ll be in my hometown of Washington, D.C. capturing the best street style looks I can find and writing about them on CollegeFashionista for y’all to read.
Even though D.C. isn’t the first city you think of as being very fashionable (it’s probably not even in your top 10), I’m incredibly excited to help put D.C. style on the radar of Fashionistas/os everywhere. The style of D.C. is incredibly influenced by its younger crowd. This includes recent grads who are now working in D.C. and, of course, the plethora of college students who call D.C. home for their four years of undergraduate study.
I sometimes feel a little out of touch with the fashion world at school. I attend Elon University in North Carolina, which is in much more of a small town than I was used to growing up in the nation’s capital.
After graduation next spring, I plan to start a career in the Public Relations field and hopefully return to London, where I studied abroad this past fall. Observing the street style in London definitely impacted my personal style. My style is more casual and London street style influenced me to be bolder and chicer.
I think my friend Hailey is my biggest style influence at school. She does such an amazing job at mixing current trends with classic pieces and she has a unique personal style. My mom is my biggest style influence overall. She always looks amazing, whether she’s going to the gym or going to work! I would describe my personal style as Southern boho, but also classic and comfortable. I don’t always follow trends, but I aim to look put together. Fashion is a great way to express yourself; my outfits usually match how I’m feeling that day and my personal style is constantly evolving.
I love dresses and they tend to be a staple in any southern girl’s wardrobe. This dress is from one of my favorite underrated shopping spots, Target. Being on a college student’s budget, it’s the first place I go when I need anything. Jean jackets make any dress more casual without taking away style. I got this one at American Eagle Outfitters ages ago. My glasses are sassy and a nice change from the usual aviators; they’ve become part of my signature spring look. I’ve worn these glasses almost everyday this spring to liven up my outfits! Lastly, my Ariat boots are the unexpected pop to my outfit. You would NEVER find cowboy boots in D.C. and that’s part of the reason I love them. I can’t wait to wear this outfit to football games this fall!
I’m really excited to write about how to translate high fashion into something more wearable on campus and to take a ton of awesome street style shots. I can’t wait to scout Georgetown and Dupont Circle for some Fashionistas/os!
